WHN helps Holcombe Harriers stage mountain trial duathlon

Woodcocks Haworth and Nuttall has thrown its weight behind a challenging duathlon which will get legs churning, wheels turning and muscles burning.

The firm has sponsored The Holcombe Harriers Mountain Trial Duathlon, which will take place on September 20 at 9am and start from the Hare and Hounds pub, Holcombe Brook.

The duathlon will consist of two 6.3km fell runs across the finest parts of Holcombe Moor and a 27km road cycle route around the classic ‘Mountain Trial Holcombe Circuit’. The event is open to anyone wanting to challenge themselves and entrants can choose to compete solo or as part of a relay team.

The race, which will see round 200 athletes compete, has been organised by the Holcombe Harriers club which formed in 2011 and Woodcocks Haworth and Nuttall will support by providing race numbers and signage for the event. There will be prizes for every age group along with spot prizes for individual performances.

Member of Holcombe Harriers and partner at WHN, Berin Jones said: “We are committed to supporting charities and groups within our local communities and so we are really pleased to support the club as it stages its first mountain trial duathlon event. The club members work tirelessly to ensure that there is sufficient adrenaline-charged training and competitions to benefit those with a passion for running, cycling and swimming in the area.”

One of the founders of the club, John Kirkham, also an age group GB duathlon team member, commented: “We wanted to stage an event which could meet the demand of athletes in East Lancashire who enjoy testing themselves and so this terrain and distance is engineered to be particularly challenging.

“Lots of our members have pulled together to allow this event to take shape and we are also grateful for the commitment from our sponsor Woodcocks Haworth and Nuttall.”
