A Bury law firm has committed to a new scheme to crack down on thousands of false personal injury compensation claims.
Woodcocks Haworth and Nuttall has joined the approved list of solicitors to use a service which aims to get fraudsters and cheats out of the personal injury claims system.
The database service called ‘askCUE PI’ will enable solicitors at Woodcocks Haworth and Nuttall to access records to identify any which relate to a personal injury or industrial illness incident that has already been reported.
Pam Roberts at Woodcocks Haworth and Nuttall, commented: “The delivery of this service is an important milestone in the ongoing fight against fraud and being on the approved list of law firms will help us identify the serial fraudsters.
“The database won’t on its own determine our clients’ veracity, one of the benefits of seeing a legal expert is that we value old fashioned face-to-face conversations. Speaking to our clients in detail helps us to remain successful for genuine claimants who have endured real suffering as a result of an accident.”
Personal injury claims in the UK have soared to 71,000 a month with some insurers claiming that whiplash from road traffic incidents contributes to 80 per cent of those claims.*
As of June 1, it has become compulsory for solicitors to check the records held for clients on the CUE PI database before submitting a Claim Notification Form through the Claims Portal.
Pam continued: “WHN Solicitors was one of the first law firms to sign up to this service demonstrating our commitment to ensuring personal injury cases are genuine. With other firms signing up to the service we can help prevent Bury from becoming a fraudulent claims hotspot.”
The ‘askCUE PI’ scheme is the result of an unprecedented joint project led by the Association of British Insurers, the Law Society, the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers and the Motor Accident Solicitors Society (MASS).
