A leading lawyer who has almost tripled the turnover of his firm has been recognised as Businessman of the Year at the Made in Bury Business Awards.
David McCann, who is the senior director at WHN Solicitors, has seen revenue increase from £2m when he was made senior partner of the firm in 2011, to more than £5m in the current year.
Under David’s leadership, Woodcocks merged with Haworth & Nuttall in 2012 to form WHN – and created a powerful springboard for strategic growth.
This involved expanding the business’ geographical coverage, while extending its service offer and developing areas of specialist expertise.
The business has also grown niche commercial and private client teams to become one of the pre-eminent full-service law firms in the south east Lancashire and north Manchester area.
Another major milestone in the last 12 months was switching the business from a partnership model, which was established in 1791, to a commercially efficient limited company structure.
Meanwhile, David’s strategic property planning freed up significant cash reserves to create a cash-rich business with an exceptionally strong balance sheet.
David commented: “Receiving this accolade at the Made in Bury Business Awards is a tremendous honour. WHN was also highly commended in the professional, legal and financial category of the awards. In addition, the firm sponsored the Woodcocks Haworth & Nuttall Manufacturing and Engineering Award, which went to Radcliffe polystyrene solutions business Molygran.
